About us

Our Philosophy

At Ada Mary A’Beckett Children’s Centre our vision is to provide a warm and welcoming environment where each child is respected and valued for who they are, where they came from and who they are becoming. We aim to do this by weaving together all aspects of a child’s life; honouring family, education and community as vital and rich resources for each child to reach their full potential.

We are invested in nurturing each child to become strong in their emotional, social and physical wellbeing; helping them develop skills and dispositions that are needed for the pursuit of meaningful relationships and life-long learning. Children are respected both independently and collaboratively as powerful advocates in matters that affect them. We encourage and challenge their curiosity, thinking, and ability to learn from and teach each other. Children are admired for their valuable insights, and with each child’s thirst for discovery and exploration we witness meaningful learning and development through their play.

We take pride in our environment being a welcoming second home for all children and their families, inclusive of their individual needs and abilities. We provide a flexible, all-encompassing, play-based atmosphere that inspires wonder and creativity while honouring the unique needs of each child. We believe that children benefit from spending significant time in natural environments and should have the right to unrestricted access of outdoor spaces. We provide opportunities for children to forge a deep connection with nature and we encourage kindness, respect and consideration of all living things. We empower children to become global citizens through their active participation in sustainable education, laying the foundation for positive environmental change. We utilise our beachside location to further enhance children’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging.

We are guided by the principles of our namesake Ada Mary A’Beckett; a strong advocate for children’s rights, the importance of early childhood education and for creating positive social change. We are committed to maintaining a team of excellent early childhood professionals who are guided by best practice and research thus ensuring that we offer a high-quality program. Our educators recognise themselves as lifelong learners, and as such are continuously developing their practice and expertise. We are proud of our diverse, professional team who encourage strong, open relationships with families and children.

We are a culturally safe place for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children, where we aspire to build a community free from bias, racism, discrimination and stereotypes; strongly promoting respect for all people, land and animals on Bunurong land where Ada Mary A’Beckett Children centre stands. We value the cultures and diversity of each family and recognise them as a child’s first teacher; providing rich resources of knowledge and perspectives to our community. We strive to develop and maintain partnerships with our community; welcoming participation and collaboration into all aspects of our programs, policies, procedures and events. We invite our community to help us to create unity, equality, and equity to meet positive change as we strive for continual improvement.
