Curriculum

We promote a child centered curriculum, with a focus on children learning through play.  Each child is planned for on an individual basis, taking into account individual interests, strengths and abilities.

We have been recognised as a healthy early childhood service and have successfully met statewide wide benchmarks for physical activity, sun protection, and oral health.

0–2 Years

Our 0-2 learning environment is a warm and inviting space, our highly experienced and qualified early childhood educators will work in partnership with parents to nurture and support each child to develop and ultimately, thrive.

We work closely with families to form strong, trusting relationships to build a consistent routine between home and care, enabling the children to feel secure and supported.

Both the indoor and outdoor curriculum explores a variety of learning outcomes. The 0-2 children have access to a large outdoor undercover area as well as the adjoining larger yard. Our indoor/outdoor program allows children to free flow from one context to the other with equal interaction between both indoor and outdoor environments.

We are involved in our local community by engaging small groups in both planned and impromptu local outings, taking advantage of our beautiful local parks and beach front.  This is done either on foot or in our 4 seater pram.

2–3 Years

In the 2-3 year old environments, children have access to a vast natural outdoor area leading from vibrant educational play spaces. All of our learning spaces are designed for individual children’s development and the educational and development needs of the entire group.

The educators in this age group promote children’s independence, collaboration and cooperation through providing a nurturing and supportive environment, while building upon their knowledge and development.

We provide incursion activities such as yoga, sport and music by trained companies at no additional cost, as well as special events throughout the year. The children are also engrossed in the larger Port Phillip community through walking excursions and visiting the beach, local shops or watching the ships dock at Princess Pier.

3–5 Years

Our 3-5 learning environment offers fully qualified Early childhood teachers in both our preschool room and 3 year old kinder.

In the year prior to starting school, children participate in their all-important kindergarten/preschool year. Unlike sessional kindergarten, our preschool program offers families a comprehensive kindergarten curriculum, with the flexibility of long day-care hours. The preschool program is delivered by 2 fully qualified teachers, supported by 2 diploma qualified staff, 5 days per week; using a fun, play-based learning approach that engages active young minds.

All children have access to our large outdoor environment; the yard runs directly off the preschool space, linked by a carpeted veranda area. The yard is diverse in surface and offers lots of challenge and opportunity for nature play. Surrounded by large climbing trees and natural shade, the yard has a dry creek bed running along the back fence line, river sand digging patch, mud kitchen space and large rectangular sand pit. There is a large fortress, wooden cubby area, and stage play area, complemented by wooden planters and transportable garden beds.

All children have opportunity to participate in weekly sporting and music classes as well as community outings and other incursions/excursions to support the children’s learning.

Reconciliation Action Plan

Supporting reconciliation between non-Indigenous and Indigenous Australians is important to us.  We have attended PD sessions, researched, shared information and spoken with Aboriginal people to build our knowledge and understanding on how to deliver constructive messages about Indigenous Australia.  We have  formalised our commitment to reconciliation by developing a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). We have developed a RAP and used the Narragunnawali platform to register existing initiatives and continue our journey.

Quality Improvement Plan

The aim of a QIP is to help us self-assess our performance in delivering quality education and care, and to plan future improvements in our practice. Our QIP includes an assessment of the programs and practices at the centre against the National Quality Standard and National Regulations. It also helps us to identify areas for improvement. The QIP also documents our strengths.
